ORIS Aquis Dat Watt Limited Edition’s role in preserving the Wadden Sea.

ORIS “Change for the Better” campaign aims at making a difference. Through its Social Corporate Responsibility mission, Oris wants to be part of conserving, cleaning and saving the Wadden Sea, in a joint initiative with various nonprofit environmental organizations around the world.

The Wadden Sea was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. Located at the southern part of the North Sea between Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark, it covers a 500 km coastline. It’s the home for over 10 million migratory birds every year -more than 30 species of breeding birds- and it hosts 2,300 species of flora and fauna. Due to this fact, it has the world’s most extensive unbroken tidal flat system.  This is why Oris has joined forces with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) taking this first step to clean the area, not only for the resulting financial support but also to help CWSS gain notoriety.

The ORIS “Aquis Dat Watt” Limited Edition watch (Dat Watt in German dialect means Wadden Sea) is a special watch! It consists of only 2009 pieces, which symbolizes the year the Wadden Sea was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status.  Its dial displays the lunar cycle and tidal range in the Northern Hemisphere. Using a central white pointer hand, it shows the corresponding tidal range via the white outline on the dial, indicating the waxing and waning of the moon.
